Baaghi 4 Holds Strong at ₹9Cr on Day 2 After Impressive ₹12Cr Opening

New Delhi, September 7, 2025 – In a surprising turn for Bollywood’s action enthusiasts, Tiger Shroff’s latest venture, Baaghi 4, experienced a significant dip in its box office performance on its second day. Released on September 5, 2025, the film opened to a respectable ₹12 crore nett in India on its first day, fueling hopes for a strong weekend haul. However, early estimates for Day 2 (September 6, a Saturday) peg the collections at just ₹9 crore nett, marking a worrying 25% drop and bringing the two-day total to ₹21 crore. This downward spiral has raised eyebrows in the industry, especially given the franchise’s history of robust openings and the film’s high-profile cast and massive budget.

The Baaghi series, which began in 2016 with Tiger Shroff as the rebellious Ronnie, has been a staple of high-octane action cinema. Each instalment has built on the previous one’s success, with Baaghi 2 (2018) emerging as the franchise’s biggest hit, grossing over ₹258 crore worldwide. Baaghi 3 (2020) also performed well initially, collecting ₹17.5 crore on its opening day before the pandemic curtailed its run. Expectations were sky-high for Baaghi 4, directed by A. Harsha and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, with a reported budget of ₹200 crore.

On paper, Baaghi 4 seemed poised for success. The plot delves into darker themes, following Ronnie’s survival of a catastrophic train crash and his subsequent descent into grief, guilt, and psychological turmoil. Blending intense action sequences with emotional depth, the narrative reportedly involves Ronnie being recruited by a covert agency to combat a global terror network, featuring assassins, cyber threats, and international battles. Critics have noted the film’s “insane” interval block and climax, praising Shroff’s physical prowess and Dutt’s villainous intensity. Yet, the mixed reviews—describing it as “violent, loud, and over-the-top”—appear to have impacted audience turnout.

Day 1’s ₹12 crore nett was seen as a solid start, making it Tiger Shroff’s fifth-highest opener and the eighth-biggest Bollywood debut of 2025. It outperformed contemporaries like Param Sundari (₹6.75 crore) and The Bengal Files (₹1.75 crore on Day 1), despite facing stiff competition from Hollywood’s The Conjuring: Last Rites, which opened stronger with projections of ₹15-18 crore. Advance bookings were promising, with over 60,000-65,000 tickets sold, and ticket prices hiked to an average of ₹500 in Delhi NCR and ₹400 in Mumbai. Producer figures even claimed ₹13.2 crore nett for Day 1, though trade estimates were more conservative at ₹11 crore, amid suspicions of self-ticket buying.

The real shocker came on Day 2. Instead of the expected weekend boost—typically 20-50% growth on Saturdays—collections plummeted to ₹9 crore. This represents a stark contrast to the franchise’s past performances; for instance,  Major circuits like Mumbai (18.33%), NCR (20.00%), and Bengaluru (21.67%) showed moderate engagement, but the lack of night show turnout is particularly alarming for a film targeting young, urban audiences.

Several factors could explain this “woe.” Mixed word-of-mouth has been a key culprit. While fans lauded the action and Shroff’s “emotional rebel” portrayal, critics pointed to the film’s excessive violence and lack of realism, earning it an ‘A’ certificate after 23 cuts and additional edits to trim its 2-hour-37-minute runtime. Competition intensified over the weekend: The Conjuring: Last Rites continued its dominance, and The Bengal Files—despite lower openings—gained traction with its political themes, collecting ₹1.41 crore on Day 2 for a total of around ₹3.16 crore. Baaghi 4 edged it out, but the margin (₹21 crore vs. ₹3.16 crore) feels underwhelming given the budget disparity—The Bengal Files was made for just ₹30 crore.

Overseas performance offers little solace. Early estimates show $0.12 million (₹1.06 crore gross) on Day 1, contributing to a worldwide gross of ₹14.15 crore initially. By Day 2, global figures are projected to hover around ₹25-27 crore, far below the ₹200 crore needed for breakeven. Trade analysts like Sumit Kadel have expressed concern, noting that the film’s reliance on mass appeal in single-screen theaters hasn’t materialized as hoped. Social media buzz, while positive from Shroff’s loyal fanbase, hasn’t translated into sustained footfalls, with some users criticizing the plot’s shift toward psychological elements over pure action.

This isn’t Shroff’s first post-pandemic stumble. Films like Heropanti 2Ganapath, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan underperformed, putting pressure on Baaghi 4 as a potential comeback. The actor, known for his acrobatic stunts and dance skills, has been a box office draw in the action genre, but evolving audience tastes—favoring content-driven stories amid streaming dominance—might be shifting the landscape. The franchise’s formula, while successful in the past, could be wearing thin, especially with the absence of original co-stars like Shraddha Kapoor (who makes a cameo in a song).

Looking ahead, Sunday (Day 3) will be crucial. If collections rebound to ₹10-12 crore, the opening weekend could close at ₹30-33 crore, providing a foundation for weekday stability. Positive public reviews emerging online suggest potential growth if word-of-mouth improves. However, with no major holidays immediately following and upcoming releases like War 2 and Sikandar looming, Baaghi 4 risks fading quickly. Its OTT release on Amazon Prime Video in early November 2025 could salvage some revenue, but theatrical success remains key for profitability.

Industry insiders remain cautiously optimistic. Director A. Harsha’s Hindi debut brings fresh energy, and the film’s international shooting locations add visual spectacle. Sanjay Dutt’s return to villainy after successes like KGF has been a highlight, with his confrontations with Shroff described as “electrifying”. Harnaaz Sandhu’s debut has also garnered attention, transitioning from Miss Universe 2021 to Bollywood with poise.

In conclusion, Baaghi 4‘s Day 2 woe—from ₹12 crore to ₹9 crore—signals challenges ahead. Whether it’s audience fatigue, competitive clashes, or narrative missteps, the film must rally to avoid joining the list of 2025’s underperformers. For Tiger Shroff and the team, the rebellion continues, but the box office battle is far from won. As collections update, all eyes are on whether this actioner can stage a comeback or succumb to the slump.
